Sydney's Cocktail Recipe
This recipe takes a classic spritz up a notch by paying respect to the country of italy’s popular fruit, the prickly pear. I have never seen this Italian fruit incorporated in a sparkling cocktail before, so I figured it would be a fun way to represent the culture.
I used the raw form of the fruit to make a homemade prickly pear simple syrup, then I took .5 of an ounce, .5 of an ounce of lime juice, 1 ounce of Select Appretivo and shook it in a shaker filled with ice. I used the star of the show, Mionetto Prosecco to fill up the remainder of the glass once poured to add to the citrus notes. I then garnished it with a lime twist and cheers!
What inspired the drink?
My inspiration for this drink is to combine the heritage, premium quality, taste and style of Mionetto Prosecco in a refreshing summer cocktail while paying homage to the orange, citrus tones.
The first thing I did was research native fruit in the winery's area. Prickly pears were among the top of the list, growing immensely all over the country of Italy. I thought this would be a unique way to bring some of the Mionetto heritage to North America.
